Newborn Session Frequently Asked Questions

How soon should I reserve a newborn session?

As soon as possible!! It’s best to contact me to reserve your custom photography session during the second trimester of your pregnancy or sooner to ensure my availability around your due date. I am typically booking sessions 6-12 weeks in advance.

How will we know what date to schedule for our newborn session?

Once you book your newborn session, I will reserve availability around the time of your estimated due date. Babies come on their own time, so once your little bundle has made his/her grand arrival (whether early, late, or right on time) we will finalize the date and time of your session. The ideal time to photograph your baby is around 5-10 days old.

Where do the newborn sessions take place?

At the Aubrie-Jackson Photography Studio, located on the westbank of New Orleans. In home and traveling newborn sessions are not currently available.

Does the newborn session include pictures with mom, dad, and/or siblings?

Yes. Pictures of immediate family members (mom, dad, and siblings) with the newborn baby are included in the session fee, in the form of a family +newborn mini session that take place at a separate scheduled time. The requests of any additional family members for photographs with your newborn are $25 per person. A newborn session focuses on capturing all the beautiful details of your new baby, as well as capturing the loving bond between parent and baby, and siblings and baby. The amount of family/sibling poses will vary depending on a baby’s cooperation and the cooperation of  older siblings. Having a new baby in the family can be a big change for an older sibling, and ever child handles it differently.

When will we have our family and/or sibling mini session? and why are they separate?

When doing a full newborn session we ask that no siblings be present so we can focus on keeping the ideal, quiet and relaxed environment for the newborn. Being that newborn sessions take an average of 3 hrs, it is hard to keep an older sibling happy and quiet during that time frame. If a family + sibling mini session is requested it can take place immediately after the newborn session, later in the day, or later in the week – but not surpassing the two week age of the newborn. The scheduling of such sessions will be discussed ahead of time to ensure we capture all of the requested memories!

How many pictures or setups will we get during an average session?

Every baby is different, so the amount of photographs we take will depend on the baby’s cooperation, and his/her need for soothing, feeding and changing. I typically prepare 3-6 unique set-ups for us to use during the session, and you can expect to see 15-25 proofs in your image gallery. The session may last an average of 3hrs, sometimes longer, allowing plenty of time for comforting and feeding.

What can I expect at my session?

You can expect a memorable experience filled with fun, creativity, and relaxation. You will feel comfortable knowing that your newborn is in the hands of a skilled professional that has worked with many newborns and that all images are captured with newborn safety techniques. You will have a patient photographer who pays close attention to each and every tiny detail, and one who is extremely passionate about what she does. You will never feel rushed, and you may even make a friend you’ll continue to stay in touch with long after your session.

What should I bring to the newborn session, and what should I wear?

Everything you will need to know to prepare for your session, including ideas on what to wear and what to bring, will be sent to you as soon as you reserve your custom photography session with Aubrie-Jackson Photography.

Are props available at the studio or do I need to bring my own?

Most of the props you see in my portfolio are mine, and will be available at the studio during your session. I have a large collection of hats, headbands, accessories, blankets, baskets, backdrops and other fun props, and am always purchasing new items to keep my images fresh, fun and innovative.

When will my images be available for viewing?

Your gallery of images will be available for viewing approximately 2-3 weeks after your session date. Which is when you will be back at the studio for a custom presentation. Together we will set up your final viewing appointment of your photos in the days following your session(s).

Can digital files be purchased from the session?

yes, digital collections are available. During our consultation you will be given a complete pricing and investment guide.

When will I receive my order?

Once you have paid for your order, most small prints, announcements and brag books will arrive in 12-14 business days. Canvas prints and enlargements from my professional print lab usually arrive in 3 weeks. Some products may take longer for production, and delivery time may vary during busy seasons and Holidays.
